In fact how do I get at the winch to remove the cable?? Welcome to the forum. I replaced my steel cable with synthetic, about two years ago, and love it. I find it's easier to pull the winch, right off the machine, to do any type of service. I've rebuilt my Warn 2500 twice, it's not that hard. Check this site out, they have anything you could possibly need, for Warn winch's. Make sure you also replace you're roller fair-lead, with the one designed for synthetic rope. This place also has tech pages, and a hotline for help.LINK TO MONTANA JACKS.

If you had purchased a "Ramsey" like I did,you wouldn't need to change your cable.I would never change from steele cable to a bed sheet disguised as cable replacement....

Ramsey does make a great winch. However I doubt their steel cable, is any better than Warn's. As far as synthetic cable, it holds up just as well, if not better, than the steel, if used properly. Doesn't bur up, it's easier to set up, winds better on the drum, and doesn't stack up, on the winch, which can destroy it. Jump in you're Rhino, and take a ride down to the Mobile docks. See the ships, their tied to the docks with synthetic cable. It's also replacing heavy steel chains, for anchor rigging. If it's trusted on 50,000+ ton ships, it must work on puny applications like ours. Here's a little article on the pros and cons, of synthetic and steel cable. It's only a page long; so if you got an hour or two Willie, take the time to read it. Synthetic vs Steel Winch Cable.

You just happened to catch me before my daily meeting with Sam Adams and Jack Daniels. Some times my American Indian buddy drops by, Chief Marijuana.
